London Borough of Merton
Cllr Alambritis is Leader of the London Borough of Merton, a position he has held since 2010. As Leader of Merton Council Cllr Alambritis is responsible for an outer London Borough with 200,000 residents in 80,000 households served by 8,000 businesses. Cllr Alambritis has also been a Board member of the London Pensions Fund Authority (LPFA) 2010-2018. His London Council’s Leaders experience includes membership of that organisation’s Audit Committee. Stephen Alambritis joined London LGPS CIV as a Non-Executive Director in September 2018 following approval by the FCA. He is one of two NEDs selected from suitably qualified and experienced Leaders of London Local Authorities (London CIV’s shareholders) in order to improve Board stakeholder and shareholder awareness and engagement. For much of his career Cllr Alambritis worked in the SME sector, specifically at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), as Head of Public Affairs, a role which involved significant contact with government and the financial environment of the City of London alongside the other main business organisations the CBI, IOD and BCC. Stephen is a Full Member on the EU Committee of the Regions (CoR) representing local government at the highest level in Brussels to the European Commission and to the European Parliament. Mr Alambritis has held a number of government appointments to regulatory and consumer bodies including: Better Regulation Taskforce (1997-2001), Disability Rights Commission, Commissioner (2004-2007), Enterprise UK & Global Entrepreneurship Week, Non-Executive Director (2005-2010), Ministry of Justice, Consumer Advisory Panel Member (2006-2010), Equality and Human Rights Commission, Commissioner (2009-2012), Smart Energy Group, Board Member (2013-2016). Mr Alambritis has the following qualifications; BA (Govt), MSc (Econ), MA (Business Law) and is a former Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (FCIPR).
